Data and Document COLLECTIONS

TRIADOPTION® Collections consist of data gathered since the early 1950's by persons involved or interested in search, reunion and adoption reform. The history, tone of the times, personal issues, pain, suffering, joy and accomplishment can be seen in these historic documents.

Since 1954, when Jean Paton began the very first organization "Orphan Voyage", the voice of adoptees have been heard. In 1972, Florence Fisher wrote The Search for Anna Fisher her personal story of search and reunion, placed an ad in the NY Times and formed ALMA (Adoptees Liberty Movement Association). In 1975, Emma May Vilardi founded the International Soundex Reunion Registry so there would be a free mutual consent adoption registry. Then came Lee Campbell who started Concerned United Birthparents with a small group of birthmothers, changed the terminology forever and gave a strong voice to birth families. These women blazed a long, difficult and often painful trail at a time when seeking family wasn't the 'done thing'. Thank goodness for them and hundreds of others who gave so much time and dedication to the dreams of open records, full access to documents, un-edited identifying information, the right to know and the acknowledgement that adoption should add options rather than take them away.

Any individual or organization thinking of disposing of materials related to a search, reunion or adoption reform can submit them for scanning and indexing. It is expensive and time consuming to prepare paper, computer or digital data so it is searchable and usable. It may take time to make it available here, but every effort will be made to do so in a timely fashion.
